The teaching clinic  will enable students who will be the first and only advanced dental therapists in the U.S., to provide low-cost dental care for underserved community members as the students complete required clinical hours for their degree and licensure.

Major funding for the clinic has been provided by Dental Dental of Minnesota Trust and the Henry Schein Cares Foundation. Additional supporters include 3M, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Colgate, the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation, the Hardenbergh Foundation, Jean and Bruce Johnson, the Minnesota Department of Health, and the United Way.

The U.S. Supreme Court has issued an opinion that upholds the Affordable Health Care Act

This includes the individual mandate for coverage.  The case challenged the constitutionality of several parts of the law, including the rule that most people in the U.S. must get health coverage.   We will continue to carry out provisions of the law by thoughtfully implementing the new requirements for customers and members. We will also continue to look for ways to address increasing costs that are crippling our health care system, including: ·      Advancing our partnership with primary care physicians announced earlier this year that we believe will substantially improve quality and member health, and potentially reduce the trend in overall medical costs by as much as 20% by 2015. ·      Coordinating patient care through the use of IBM-Watson technology to promote evidence-based health care and ensure that millions of Americans receive the most effective courses of treatment.  We look forward to continuing our efforts to work with policymakers and other key stakeholders to build a health care delivery system that provides security and affordability to all Americans.

Flossing,  one of the easiest things you can do for good Dental Health.  It may seem hard to believe but many people do not floss let along floss daily.  Yet flossing is even more important the brushing when it comes to preventing gum disease gingivitis and tooth loss.

Flossing your teeth is not so much about removing food bit that are such between your gums though it does do that.  Flossing is more about removing dental plaque.  Dental plaque is what causes tooth decay, gingivitis and gum disease.  Flossing every day between each tooth is an effective way to remove plaque and provide you with good oral health

If you are thinking about using a waterpik instead of flossing here are some pros and cons to consider. Also you may want to talk to your dentist see what they suggest. Having good advise from your own personal dentist is worth taking in and thinking about as a deciding factor

Pros:   Waterpiks are effective,  They can be faster to use the flossing,  Waterpiks normally come with multiple wands and different color so different family member can have their own just like a tooth brush.  Great for braces, Flossing with braces can be difficult waterpiks are offer suggested by Orthodontic dentist. Adjustable water pressure, You can get cordless waterpiks. Waterpiks are good for people who may not floss well and are having gum issues.  Anything that will make you take care of your teeth and gums better is helpful.

Cons:  Cost can be a factor since they can run as high as $50 – $60 dollars. They do brake down some not even lasting a year depending on how well you take care of it.  Hard to always see what you are doing which can cause you to make a mess.  Looking in the mirror can also be difficult as the spray tends to go where you are looking.  They can be too noisy.  Water piks take up to much counter space which is bad if you have a small bathroom.  If you are not careful the time you save in flossing is taken up by have to clean sink and counter tops from water mess.  If you are not careful they may over time loosen bridge and crown work. Over use like anything can cause more harm then good so make sure you use as directed.

What is tooth decay and how do we get cavities.   Tooth decay is the destruction of the outer surface of a tooth from acid forming bacteria that is produced by food containing carbohydrates.

How to Prevent Tooth Decay:    Brush your teeth twice a day with a tooth paste that contains fluoride. Preferably, brush after each meal and before bedtime to help reduce the bacteria from staying on your teeth for a certain length of time.

You may wish to consider these helpful tips as well:    Floss your teeth daily to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.  Check with your dentist regarding the use of a supplemental fluoride which strengthens your teeth and helps prevents tooth decay.   Consider dental sealants which is a plastic like substance placed on the top of molars to protect the teeth from decay.  Use mouth wash with fluoride.  Many of them kill 50% or more of the bacteria that cause tooth decay.  Chewing gum with the ingredient Xylitol © may also kill some of the bacteria which causes tooth decay.

Scientists are reporting identification of two substances in licorice (licoricidin and licorisoflavanin) used extensively in Chinese traditional medicine.  They help to kill the major bacteria responsible for tooth decay and gum disease, the leading causes of tooth loss in children and adults. In a study in ACS’ Journal of Natural Products, they say that these substances could have a role in treating and preventing tooth decay and gum disease

I am 22 years old and work with the public.  I hoping to get an affordable dental insurance plan that covers invisalign.  My teeth have slight gaps in two places and I want them fixed without all the metal.  I would also like a plan that does not have long waiting periods as it would be nice to fix my teeth as soon a possible

I am 16 years old and in need of orthodontic dental care.  My parents are divorced, My dad does not have a job right now so he can not help. Although my mom and step dad work they do not receive dental benefits. But I was told that if you are a California resident, you have to have a Health Insurance in order to receive dental insurance. I am wanting to know if it is true or not.

I notice that Delta Dental advertise on Costco website when I was looking for dental insurance.  I would like to know if the plan covers adult braces.   I review the Costco website but the the way it is written it is hard to understand.   I also have the feeling that I would also have to be a Costco member but I not looking to do that. Is there a way to get CA Delta Dental plan with out joining up with Costco?
