California Dental Insurance, Preventive Dental Care for Children’s Oral Health

Friday, Jun. 30th 2017

There are more than 51 million school hours lost each year due to dental related illnesses.   In addition, almost 50 percent of tooth decay remains untreated in low-income children, this according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Despite these numbers, many children still do not visit the dentist.  One reason being cost of dental care.  Many people do not receive dental benefits though their employer, and they fail to secure dental insurance on their own.  Cost could also be an with regards to dental insurance.  However it does not have to be since in most state low cost dental insurance and or plans are available.

California Dental Insurance, Preferred Provider Organizations

Wednesday, Jun. 28th 2017

What are Dental PPO’s

Another true insurance plan, a Preferred provider organizations ( PPO) falls somewhere between an indemnity plan and a dental HMO. This plan allows a particular group of patients to receive dental care from a defined panel of dentists.

The participating dentist agrees to charge less than usual fees to this specific patient base, providing savings for the plan purchaser. If the patient chooses to see a dentist who is not designated as a “preferred provider,” that patient may be required to pay a greater share of the fee-for-service.

A group of dentists agrees to provide services at a deeply discounted rate, giving you substantial savings — as long as you stay in their network. Unlike the more restrictive DHMO, though, you can go out of network and still receive some benefits

California Dental Insurance on Dental Discount Plans

Dental Discount

You will want to use caution with this type of dental plan since it is not insurance. The managing organizations have negotiated with local dental offices to establish a set price for a particular dental procedure and offer deep discounts (some up to 70%) off the regular ADA pricing code.

This plan has several advantages over traditional dental insurance plans, namely, there are no exclusions for pre-existing conditions. This allows a patient to receive immediate coverage for work without meeting any waiting period requirements.

California Dental Insurance, What is Tooth Decay?

Sunday, Jun. 18th 2017

Tooth decay is the destruction of the outer surface of a tooth from acid forming bacteria that is produced by food containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches).  Tooth Decay Prevention: Brush your teeth twice a day with a tooth paste that contains fluoride. Preferably, brush after each meal and before bedtime to help reduce the bacteria from staying on your teeth for a certain length of time.  You may wish to consider these helpful tips as well:  Floss your teeth daily to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.  Check with your dentist regarding the use of a supplemental fluoride which strengthens your teeth and helps prevents tooth decay. Consider dental sealants which is a plastic like substance placed on the top of molars to protect the teeth from decay.

Use mouth wash with fluoride. Many of them kill 50% or more of the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Chewing gum with the ingredient Xylitol © may also kill some of the bacteria which causes tooth decay.

California Dental Insurance, Dental Insurance Plans for Couples.

Friday, Jun. 16th 2017

Some couples can have different dental care needs. Such as for couples with an large age difference, they may want to buy individual plans if the plan they want is an age rated plan. Also not all couples go to or want to go to the same dental office so the dental insurance plan you may buy might be based on the providers each person wishing to use. However if both can agree to the same dental insurance plan then normally buying a couple plan vs two individual plan would be more cost effective. Make sure to review all our dental insurance options we have available so you can get the best plan for your needs.

California Dental Insurance, Indemnity Dental Insurance

Wednesday, Jun. 14th 2017

An Indemnity Dental Plan  is the plan where you choose your own dentist. The dental insurance plan pays the dental office (dentist) on a traditional fee-for-service basis. A monthly premium is paid by the client and/or the employer to an insurance company, which then reimburses the dental office (dentist) for the services rendered.

An insurance company usually pays between 50% – 80% of the dental office (dentist) fees for a covered procedures; the remaining 20% – 50% is paid by the client. These plans often have a pre-determined or set deductible amount which varies from plan to plan. Indemnity plans also can limit the amount of services covered within a given year and pay the dentist based on a variety of fee schedules.

California Dental Insurance, Looking for Supplemental Dental Insurance

Monday, Jun. 12th 2017

I am looking for a supplemental dental insurance plan.  Right now I have Delta dental PPO with my job.  I need to have two wisdom teeth pulled and a root canal on my back molar.   My Delta dental has a $1000.00 max yearly limit.   With the dental work I will be needing a $1000.00 max will not get me much at all.  So I am looking for a way to help off set my additional dental cost.  Just have the root canal will max my Delta dental plan.  I will still need a supplemental dental plan to help with the cost of the wisdom teeth extractions.

Reply: The problem you will run into is that a new plan will still have waiting periods for major services. Making having an additional insurance plan for your current needs not effective/useful.  I would suggest maybe looking into getting an HMO insurance plan to see if it works out better for you cost wise for the services you are currently need.

Sacrament CA Dental Insurance, Wisdom Tooth Infection

Wednesday, May. 24th 2017

My boyfriend had his wisdom teeth pulled out about seven months ago.  Everything has been fine until a few days ago when the back of his mouth really started hurting and swelling up.  It looks like it may be an abscess from where one of the wisdom tooth was taken out. He go back to the dentist but he dose not have the money to pay for more dental care.

Reply: I would strongly suggest going back and seeing if not the dentist he pulled the wisdom tooth then to your local general dentist. If he dose have an abscess that is nothing to put off as it can cause serious problems that go beyond oral health.
