Answer: Delta Dental as a whole is a good dental insurance plan option. They do provide many plan choices. What best would depend on your own dental needs. Take the maximum limitation as an example, Delta dental maximum limitation range from $1000 – $2000. So if your dental care needs are just having preventive dental care $1000 max limit would be find but if you feel larger dental care services are in your future the going to the 2000 max limit may be a better option.

Be careful when trying to mask bad breath. Sugarless gum should not replace brushing and flossing your teeth after a meal, but in a pinch it can freshen breath by masking odors and is another way to increase saliva production to rinse away plaque and bacteria. Make sure to go for sugarless gum and or mints, since sugar creates plaque, and no one wants a mint that makes breath worse.

In a prior post links to low carb diet and bad breath where found. So how can you slim down with out the bad breath side effects? Her are some tips in combating halitosis.
1) Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. By drinking water you help to dilute the concentration of ketones. Also by drinking water it can help to cleanse teeth of excess bacteria and food debris. Bad breath can sometimes be caused by food particles caught in the teeth, and drinking water will help rinse away odor-causing particles.
2) Chewing gum. Chewing Sugarless gum with xylitol after meals can help keep bad breath away. Your saliva production increases during chewing and this can help neutralize acid production and rinse food particles from the mouth. Sugar-free gum with xylitol can also help prevent cavities. Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in plants and fruits, and research shows it inhibits the growth of Streptococcus mutans, the oral bacteria that cause cavities.
3) Maintain good dental habits. Brushinand flossing at least twice a day will not only keep your mouth healthy but will prevent odors. Cleaning the tongue with a toothbrush or tongue scraper after meals can also help alleviate odors.
4) Seeing a dentist regularly. It is important in your overall oral and dental health to keep your dental appointments. See a dentist at least twice a year more if advised by a dentist. If your halitosis continues a general dentist or doctor can help determine the source of the odor.

Question: is there a Delta Dental plan in California where I can choose my own dentist? My dentist is no longer accepting the dental insurance plan I have though work. However, it is important to me to stay with him. The office stated that they do take Delta Dental but I want to make sure I get a plan where I will have not problems staying with my dentist.

However, most of them are either PPO plans that let you go outside their provider list (therefore letting you keep your own dentist) or Indemnity dental insurance plans that do not have a list of providers which means you pick your own dentist to go to. When shopping for dental insurance there are three different plan types. Here is a brief review of the three plan types available.
1) The HMO: Dental HMO are normally the more affordable dental insurance plan option. However, with an HMO you do need to choose a dentist within the plan network of providers and it important to understand there is no benefits/coverage if you go to a dentist not accepting the plan or is other out of the plan network.
2) The PPO: Dental PPO insurance plans can tend to be more costly then the HMO plans but they normally will have a broader range of plan network providers. In additions dental PPO plan will normally provide coverages to out of network dentist though sometimes at a reduce coverages. These types of plans may also come with waiting periods and yearly maximum dollar limitation that you need to be aware of.
3) The Indemnity Plan: An indemnity dental insurance plan in many ways is like your PPO dental insurance plan with similar limitations. However this types of dental insurance plans will normally not have a network of dental providers as they provide you a free choice of dentist. Meaning you can pick your own dentist without worry if they are a plan provider or not.

Endodontic/Root Canal dental treatment is needed when the the pulp (The pulp: contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue and creates the surrounding hard tissues of the tooth during development) becomes inflamed or infected. This inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: such as deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. Also, a injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

When shopping for dental insurance, it is important to not only look for affordability in a plan, but that also provides quality coverage/benefits that will fit your dental care needs the best.
A lower cost dental insurance plan may at first fit your budget, but not if the plan benefits does not cover you dental care needs. Many lower cost plans may not provide benefits to see a specialist or the co payments may too high for the dental service you may need.
Like wise a more costly plan does not always mean better benefits. It is important to review each plan terms and conditions to make sure you getting the most out of what you are paying regardless of the price of the dental plan.

Question: My son is going to have his wisdom teeth removed. Will be put to sleep during the process? If so, what should I expect when he wakes up? Is dental extractions very painful? What should I have on hand and What is the aftercare ?
Answer: Generally speaking you would go to an oral surgeon to have wisdom teeth removed and you would be asleep during the process. Once the teeth are extracted the dentist will gold up some gauze and place it in his mouth over the extraction site. You will be given extra gauze to take home and use as needed.
In most cases before leaving the dental office the dentist will go over the after care instructions as well as give it to you in writing. The instructions will go over what to expect during the recovery and will normally provide a list of dos and don’t.
Any bleeding should slow down and stop with in a few hours of the extraction. You may want him to take it easy the first day and rest. Throughout the first day it is important to keep an icepack on his cheeks near the extraction area. Wisdom teeth extractions are known for causing swelling and his cheeks can blow up for a few days.
Make sure to stick to soft food during the healing process such as soup, Jell-O, yogurt and pudding to name a few. You should talk to the dentist that will be doing the wisdom teeth extractions ahead of time so you can have the chance to ask all the questions needed. Do not be afraid to ask a dentist any questions you may have this way you can relax a little about the process.
