Edentulism (tooth loss) has been the focus of a recent study, which traced it over the last hundred years. The project’s report highlights the numbers of people losing teeth and requiring dentures. The single most influential determinant of the decline was the passing of generations born before the 1940s, whose rate of edentulism incidence far exceeded later cohorts. High income households experienced a greater relative decline, although a smaller absolute decline, than low income households.

Question: I have a teen currently in braces but we moved from FL and need to find a new orthodontic dentist. Also I just found out since I moved to a different state my dental insurance is not valid in CA so I need dental insurance that will help me cover the orthodontic treatment my son.
Answer: You may find it hard to find dental insurance for your son orthodontic services since now he would fall under a work in progress exclusion many dental insurance plans have. Such exclusion would read something like this: Expenses incurred in connection with any dental procedure started prior to the effective date of Coverage or after the termination date of Coverage.
Even many dental discount plans have this type of exclusion yet since it is not insurance that can be a judgement call for the dental office to make. Therefore your best option may be a dental discount plan but make sure you call the plan providers first to confirm if they are will to still provide the discount saving for this continue orthodontic care needs before buying the plan.

Question: I am just wondering if you really can brush your teeth with Jack Daniels? My friends say yes but that because of a song by Tik Tok Kesha. I would think it would mess up your teeth? Since my friends bought it up I would like to really know if it is good for your teeth?
Answer: Jack Daniels is definitely not on the list of approved toothpastes. With regards to the song Tik Tok by Kesha. She does not mean it literary. For most people in general brushing their teeth is the first thing they may do after waking up. When in the song it says, that they brush their teeth with a bottle of Jack, it means that the first thing they do when they wake up is drinking whiskey. This is surely not an advisable habit to get into.

Brushing your teeth too hard can damage your gums. It can cause your gums to recede (move away from the teeth). Plaque attaches to teeth like jam sticks to a spoon. It can not be totally removed by rinsing, but a light brushing will do the trick. Once plaque has hardened into calculus (tartar), brushing can not remove it. If you think you might brush too hard, hold your toothbrush the same way you hold a pen. This encourages a lighter stroke.

Brush your teeth no more than three times a day. It is advise that you brush your teeth at least twice a day once in the morning and once right before bed time. However some people do like to brush more often therefore brushing after lunch will help to give you a good midday cleaning. Yet too much of a good thing is not always a good idea, brushing too often can also damage your gums.

It is advise that you should brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes. Brush your teeth in the morning after breakfast. That way bits of food are removed. But if you eat in your car or at work, or skip breakfast, brush first thing in the morning. The second time you should brush your teeth is just before you go to bed. When you sleep, your mouth gets drier. This makes it easier for acids from bacteria to attack your teeth.

After having one or more teeth extractions, you will want to take proper care in order to heal quickly and smoothly. Once a tooth is removed a blood clot is formed. The blood clot covers the extraction site which allows the area to heal. It will be normal for the extraction area to be tender for the first few days after the extraction. In many cases a simple over the counter pain relief will be enough to relive any discomfort. After having the extraction take it easy for the rest of the day. When you sleep for the first night do your best to keep your head up with pillows.
In the first day after the extraction you may have some bleeding. Your dentist will usually provide a few gauze pads for this. Just place the pad in the area and you should try and keep firm pressure on it. Slight bleeding for the first day or so is normal, but if you still bleed more heavily after an hour or two, contact your dentist.
Do not rinse your mouth during the first twenty-four hours, after this period you can gently rinse your mouth using warm salt water. You will want to rinse after every meal and snack in order to remove any bits of food around the extraction area.
